Nursery Overview

Class Information

Mrs Broughton's Nursery is split into two classes, The Lovely Ladybirds and The Dazzling Dragonflies. The children register in different classrooms before working together as a unit.

Start of the session:

Each day, our session begins at 9:00am and finishes and 12:00pm. We kindly ask for your help to ensure that your child is at school on time.

After your child has hung up their coat, they are encouraged to find their own name from the table and drop it into the basket provided in self registration.

During the session:

The children are then registered on the carpet together after the doors have closed. They will then take part in a wide range of learning activities, either in small or large groups, adapted to their ability and needs in order to achieve.

In Nursery we have a 'free-flow' system, where the children can explore the Nursery and the different activities provided. Each area will be set up with different learning opportunities each week, related to the learning focus of the week.

The children come back together to the carpet throughout the session to take part in directed Phonics and Maths activities three times a week. Phonics begins in Autumn 2.

Snack:

We have enhanced our snack time routine into a more developmental experience, where we will be exploring independence, cutlery skills, an opportunity to ‘try new things’ and build upon a wide range of fine and gross motor skills, whilst enjoying some yummy treats in the process.

We have introduced a wider range of snacks that will sometimes require the children to help prepare.
This will always include an option of fruit and an extra; for example, this could involve toast. Where the children will choose their own topping and apply it independently.
There will be different options available each day promoting and enhancing a different skill - all allergies will be considered during this time.
In order to do this effectively, this will be a small cost of just £1 a week, which will be paid in cash, to a member of staff in your child’s class, each Monday morning on entry.

Library Day:

Our library day is Wednesday. Library day allows the opportunity for children to take a book from school to share at home. We will then look at the book together in Nursery and allow them to select another book of their interests.

Could we kindly ask that you please return all books and book bags each Wednesday.

Open door policy:

In Nursery we aim to provide an 'open door policy' and encourage any parents/carers to come and speak to a member of staff in Nursery if they have any queries or questions.

If any parents/carers wish to speak with Mrs Broughton, the best times are at the start and end of every session (except Tuesday evening, which is staff meeting).
Alternatively, we can arrange a telephone appointment.

Many thanks
Mrs Broughton

Autumn 1
This half term we have focused on Me and My Community and Autumn. During this topic, we have explored a wide range of activities including, People Who Help Us in our community, our own interests, likes and dislikes, Autumn and getting to know each other.

During our 'Move to Write' sessions, we have explored a range of skills and stretches to help and promote early writing. Focusing on a range of lines, shapes and many opportunities for mark making.

During maths, the children have focused on counting and sorting by shape, colour and size.

Autumn 2:

This half term we have focused on the topics, 'Once Upon a Time' and 'Sparkle and Shine'.

We have explored a range of 'traditional tales' and familiar rhymes. We have focused on a story a week, enhancing the areas in our provision linking to the stories. One week we had straw, wood and rubber bricks in our 'tuff tray', where we were asked to build a house for the 'Three Little Pigs'.

Our topic also included exploring 'Celebrations and Traditions'. We explored a range of celebrations such as, weddings, christenings, birthdays and Christmas, sharing our traditions and comparing the similarities and differences with others. We brought home photographs to show and went on to study other religions traditions, which lead to creating Diva Lamps from clay.

As a whole school topic, we have also covered the story 'The Snowman'. We had a themed snack for a week, creating snowmen from biscuits, pancakes and fruit kebabs, we created snowmen from playdough and enjoyed snuggling up into our igloo reading area to share a book with friends.

We hope that you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2025, were we will also welcome some new starters to our Nursery.
